Product Description

Corn Gluten Feed 18% Application in Poultry:

Corn Gluten Feed (CGF) is one of the by-products of corn processing, mainly from the residue after corn starch extraction. As a high-protein, energy-rich feed, CGF is widely used in the breeding of various animals, especially poultry, and has gradually become an economical and effective alternative feed. The protein content of corn bran feed is generally about 18%, which is suitable for daily nutritional supplementation of poultry, especially laying hens, broilers and chicks.

1. Composition and characteristics of corn bran feed

The basic ingredients of corn bran feed include:

Crude protein (18%): This makes CGF a relatively high-quality protein source. The 18% protein content is very suitable for poultry, especially fast-growing broilers and laying hens, which helps them gain weight and synthesize protein.

Crude fiber: Corn bran feed contains a certain amount of crude fiber, usually between 10-12%. A proper amount of fiber helps the digestive system of poultry to be healthy and promotes intestinal peristalsis.

Fat: CGF also contains a certain amount of fat, usually between 3-5%. These fats can provide energy for poultry, especially during the rapid growth stage.

Minerals and vitamins: Corn bran feed is rich in various minerals and vitamins, especially B vitamins, phosphorus and calcium, which are important for the bone development, immune system function and metabolism of poultry.

Amino acids: Although corn bran feed is rich in protein, its amino acid profile is not as ideal as Plant Protein sources such as soybean meal. Therefore, it is often necessary to combine it with other feeds such as soybean meal to ensure that poultry can get enough essential amino acids.

2. Application of CGF in poultry feed

In poultry production, especially in the breeding of broilers and laying hens, corn bran feed plays an important role. The following are its applications in poultry:

(1) Broiler breeding

Broilers require a lot of protein and energy during their rapid growth. The high protein and fat in corn bran feed provide them with the nutrients they need. By adding 18% corn bran feed to the feed formula of broilers, the economy of the feed can be effectively improved while maintaining a high feed conversion ratio (FCR). In addition, the crude fiber in CGF can improve the intestinal health of broilers and reduce the occurrence of indigestion.

According to research, the proper use of corn bran feed can not only increase the growth rate of broilers, but also reduce the feeding cost without significantly affecting the meat quality. Especially when the price of corn fluctuates greatly, CGF, as an alternative raw material, can provide a stable cost advantage.

(2) Laying hen feeding

In the process of laying hen feeding, corn bran feed, as an alternative protein source, can meet the daily nutritional needs of laying hens. The crude protein content of 18% is sufficient for laying hens, especially during the peak egg-laying period, which can maintain a relatively ideal protein supply. In addition, the energy in corn bran feed also helps to maintain the production performance and egg production of laying hens.

However, the amino acid composition of corn bran feed is relatively unbalanced, especially lacking in essential amino acids such as lysine and methionine. Therefore, when using corn bran feed in laying hen feed, additional amino acid supplements are usually required to ensure that the nutritional value of its protein is fully utilized.

(3) Chick rearing

Chicks have a strong demand for protein and energy during their growth stage. Corn bran feed can provide sufficient nutrition, especially in the early stages of their growth. Since corn bran feed is mild and easy to digest, using it in moderation can help chicks adapt to new feeds and reduce indigestion or intestinal diseases during rearing.

However, in chick rearing, corn bran feed needs to be combined with other high-quality protein sources to ensure the supply of all essential amino acids. For example, it can be mixed with fish meal, soybean meal and other raw materials with high amino acid content.

3. Advantages of corn bran feed

(1) Economic efficiency

As a by-product, corn bran feed has a relatively low cost, especially in areas around corn processing plants. Compared with other high-protein feeds such as soybean meal, corn bran feed can provide a more economical source of protein. Especially when corn prices are low, using CGF as a substitute can significantly reduce production costs.

(2) Energy source

Corn bran feed contains a certain amount of digestible energy, which can provide the required energy for poultry, especially during the rapid growth period of broilers, providing sufficient energy to support their growth rate. The fat content in corn bran also provides an additional energy source for poultry.

(3) Promote intestinal health

The crude fiber in corn bran feed contributes to the intestinal health of poultry. A moderate amount of fiber helps promote intestinal motility, improve the intestinal flora environment, and reduce the occurrence of digestive problems such as constipation. In addition, corn bran also contains certain antioxidants and natural antimicrobial ingredients, which help improve the immunity of poultry.

4. Challenges of corn bran feed

Although corn bran feed has many advantages in poultry farming, it still faces some challenges during its use, which are mainly reflected in the following aspects:

(1) Amino acid imbalance

Although corn bran feed is rich in protein, its amino acid distribution is not as ideal as high-quality plant protein sources such as soybean meal, especially the lack of essential amino acids such as lysine and methionine. Therefore, when using CGF, it is usually necessary to supplement these amino acids or use it in combination with other high-quality protein sources.

(2) Problem of excessive crude fiber

Although a moderate amount of fiber is beneficial to the health of poultry, excessive crude fiber may affect the digestibility of poultry. Especially in the growth stage of broilers and laying hens, excessive crude fiber may affect the conversion efficiency of feed and lead to slow growth. Therefore, when using CGF, it is necessary to reasonably adjust the crude fiber content in the feed according to the type and growth stage of poultry.

(3) Feed palatability

The palatability of corn bran feed may not be as good as some other feed ingredients (such as soybean meal, fish meal, etc.), especially in the feeding of chicks. In order to improve palatability, it may be necessary to process it, such as crushing, baking or adding flavoring agents.

5. Conclusion and Prospect

As an important raw material in poultry breeding, corn bran feed has the characteristics of high protein, sufficient energy and low cost, making it an indispensable feed choice in poultry production. However, due to its incomplete amino acid composition and high crude fiber content, it needs to be reasonably matched with other feed ingredients in actual use to ensure that the nutritional needs of poultry are fully met. In the future, with the continuous advancement of feed processing technology, the utilization efficiency and applicability of corn bran feed are expected to be further improved, becoming a more extensive and economical poultry feed choice.

By properly utilizing corn bran feed, poultry producers can reduce feed costs, improve production efficiency, and ensure the health and growth rate of poultry.
